Jungkook
*A little earlier*
The whole gang was up on the roof top – or rather, almost the whole gang. Misun still had to show up.
Jin and Yoongi were taking care of the BBQ, cooking everyone’s food which smelled absolutely delicious. Their wives, Hana and Areum were sitting next to each other, close to them while keeping an eye on their kids Yoseob and Bong-Cha who were playing together in the playpen as they sipped on some wine.
Namjoon was sitting on the ledge with his fiancé Boram sitting on his lap next to Hoseok and his girlfriend Eunji. Taehyung, Jimin and myself were sitting around the table, drinking a beer as we listened to Boram telling us about a funny story from her training days.
‘So, I was still a student back then and as part of the course, we had to do placements at different places like homes and hospitals, including an elderly home,’ Boram began.
‘Ohh my aunt used to work as carer like that,’ Eunji said with a proud smile. ‘It’s a lot of hard work but she always had stories to tell,’ she added.
‘I’m sure. I remember this particular one, I can never stop laughing at it. So, it was a winter night and we were serving hot pumpkin soup. There was this table of five ladies who always sat together but I swear, you should have heard them. They were worthy of having a sitcom of their own,’ Boram said.
‘Let me guess, were they always picking on each other and stuff but still couldn’t live without one another?’ Taehyung asked while she nodded.
‘Not surprised. You got to love the elderly though,’ Jimin said with a genuine, warm smile.
‘Let her continue,’ Jin said from the BBQ as he seemed completely intrigued in the story.
‘So, one of them had dentures right and one of them was really, really posh. Everything was prim and proper with her. They were eating when the one with the dentures started coughing loudly and violently and then all of a sudden, we saw her dentures flying from her mouth into the others’ soup,’ Boram said.
We all burst out laughing while some of us made noises of disgust. ‘Ew! I can’t imagine seeing a pair of dentures floating in my soup,’ Hana said pulling a face.
‘Trust me, neither could we. The other one was screaming and yelling and banging on the table and we just couldn’t stop laughing,’ she explained just as we heard the elevator door opening.
I saw Misun walking out of the elevator with a box in hand. ‘Ahh here she is,’ Taehyung commented just as she smiled.
‘Finally, you’re—’ I began but stopped as soon as she stepped into the light. I saw a pretty big bruise on her jaw and I felt my heart drop. That wasn’t there before. ‘What the hell happened to you?’ I asked as I stood up.
‘Nothing Jungkook,’ she said as she put the box down. She tried to smile it away but I was not going to let and it seemed neither did the others.
‘Misun, don’t say nothing. There’s a clear bruising there,’ Namjoon commented.
‘What happened? I asked again, this time more forcefully. She sighed and rolled her eyes just as she ran her hand through her hair.
‘I went to buy the cake but ended up in the middle of a robbery. We exchanged blows and he managed to hit me in the jaw when I removed his knife,’ she said with a shrug.
‘Aish! Why did you take him on by your own?’ I asked. ‘You could have seriously gotten hurt much more than this!’ I exclaimed.
‘Because there was no time and I knew what I was doing. Besides, don’t worry. I’m fine,’ she said.
‘Did you put some ointment on it at least?’ Boram asked as she stood up from Namjoon’s lap. Misun bit her bottom lip but did not answer, causing me to roll my eyes. ‘Come on, I have a first aid kit packed up here just in case,’ Boram said as she forced Misun to sit down.
I watched as Boram took the kit and opened it up. She pulled a cream and quickly started to put some on her jaw. Misun winced quietly but didn’t say anything. I frowned as I shook my head.
‘You okay?’ Jimin whispered and I nodded. ‘You sure?’ he asked with a small smile.
‘I am Jimin. I just hate seeing any members of my team hurt,’ I said.
‘Awhh you’re such a softie even though you appear so tough and you probably could knock all of us out,’ Taehyung said.
‘Shut up!’ I said as I hit Taehyung on the arm, making the two of them laugh.
‘Food’s ready guys,’ Yoongi called out just as Boram finished doing the ointment for Misun. We all stood up as we joined on the table.
‘Thank you hyung,’ I said as we all settled down. Misun stood up as she grabbed a beer bottle.
‘I want to give a toast,’ she said as her cheeks blushed a little. ‘To this team. When the Chief and the Captain approached me, I was unsure of my decision, but I can say that this might have been the best decision I ever took. I love working in this team with exceptional people and I also love that your wives, fiancé and girlfriend are included in our family. May we have many more amazing days together where we continue to build more memories,’ Misun said, forcing me to smile at her cuteness.
We all cheered and clanked our bottles and glasses. Even the kids were cheering, making us laugh. We settled and began to eat and get to know each other more.
Misun
*The next morning*
We were all in the meeting room, waiting for the Chief and the Captain to arrive. ‘So we’re going to be having like newly recruited ones with us?’ Yoongi asked.
‘Yep. Chief wants us to help them train. We could use a couple of extra hands,’ I said.
‘You could say that again,’ Hoseok said just as the door opened revealing the Chief, the Captain and five young men. They were all tall, handsome and oh so young.
‘Good morning,’ I said as I stood up and gave a small bow to the Chief.
‘Morning Misun, everyone. I want you to meet the new five members who will be joining you,’ the Chief began.
‘Please introduce yourselves boys,’ the Captain urged.
‘Hello everyone. I’m Choi Yeonjun. I work mostly with medical examinations,’ one of the tallest said.
‘Ahh so you’ll be working mostly with me,’ Namjoon said with a big smile.
‘I’m Soobin and this is my twin brother Beomgyu and we’re both Yeonjun’s younger brothers,’ Soobin began.
‘We work mostly with forensic evidence,’ Beomgyu said.
‘Ahh so mostly with me,’ Hoseok said with another big, warm smile.
‘So the three of you are brothers?’ Taehyung asked as they nodded. ‘That’s so cool. Like imagine three brothers all working together within law enforcement,’ he commented.
‘Yeah right? That’s what I’m thinking. Your parents must be so proud of you,’ Jimin commented.
‘My brother could not stop teasing me when I told him I was joining the force,’ Jin said, laughing.
‘My brother kept saying I was crazy,’ Jungkook said, laughing as well, ‘but joke’s on him because I love my job,’ he added.
‘What about you two?’ I asked to the two who had not even said a word.
‘I’m Huening Kai and this is Kang Taehyun. We both work with the IT department,’ Huening Kai said.
‘Cool, so you’ll work mostly with Yoongi-hyung,’ Jungkook said as Yoongi gave them a small wave.
‘We’ve heard a lot about you sir. We’re honoured to work with you,’ Taehyun said as he gave a small bow.
‘Yah! Stop that!’ Yoongi said, getting flustered. His cheeks were instantly red and his eyes wide while the two youngesters looked at him with big eyes. ‘Don’t call me sir, makes me feel old. It’s bad enough I’m one of the oldest here already,’ Yoongi commented with a pout.
‘Awhh don’t worry hyung, we still love you,’ Taehyung said, making all of us laugh.
‘It seems like you’re going to get on well together. That’s good,’ the Chief said. ‘Anyways, we also brought you a new case,’ the Chief said.
‘Let’s get down to business then. What do we have?’ I asked.
‘We have reason to believe that there is going to be diamond smuggled in two days’ time,’ the Chief began.
‘Two days from now there is going to be a charity Gala event where the city’s richest gather. There will be a display of expensive jewellery and when I say expensive, I mean a single earring costing as much as a house,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘Damn! Talk about being extra,’ Hoseok said as he whistled.
‘And wasteful. So many families could be fed with that kind of money,’ Jungkook added, reminding of our conversations from our very first case together.
‘We believe that a diamond transection is going to be happening during that event. These diamonds were brought here illegally. The money for these goes to weapons or drugs, so it is important that we stop them,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘We want you to go to the event in disguise. Park Felix is going to be the one selling the diamonds in exchange for weapons. We need to find out who is bringing the weapons and drugs,’ the Chief explained.
‘You will be given new identities and clothes and even cars so that you can mingle better with the crowd,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘Awhh hell yes! That’s what I’m talking about,’ Jungkook said, excitedly at the mention of a car.
‘We’ll need to work out a plan before we get excited Jungkook,’ I said.
‘We have your identities ready. You two will actually be going in as a married couple,’ the Chief said.
‘Excuse me?’ I said, my voice raising an octave or two. Did he just say me and Jungkook have to pretend to be married?
‘What?’ Jungkook said just at the same time as me. The Chief and the Captain both looked at one another and smirked, before they nodded.
‘You’ll be Mr. and Mrs. Lee – fancy cars importers, based in Daegu,’ the Captain said. Jungkook and I both exchanged a look but then he shrugged and began to smile. I rolled my eyes but smiled as well.
‘Jimin and Taehyung are going to be close to you as your bodyguards so to say,’ the Chief said.
‘Namjoon, Jin, Hoseok,’ you three are going to be in the same room but spaced out. You’ll be their eyes and ears on the inside and in case they need back up,’ Captain Sejin explained.
‘As for you Yoongi, you’re going to be their eyes and ears from outside, monitoring cameras,’ the Chief explained.
‘Huening Kai, Taehyun, we want you to be with Yoongi and help out,’ Captain Sejin said.
‘You three, you’re going to observe as well. From what I heard, you’re good with the forensic aspect, but you’re also really good on the field. We want you to go inside the party and observe,’ the Chief said.
‘Chief, they’re new recruits. We’re going to be focusing on stopping that deal. What if something goes wrong? What if something happens to them?’ I asked, feeling pretty unsure of this decision. The Chief smiled and shook his head.
‘You’re not going to focus on them. Misun, I know you’re very protective of people around you, but they’re not going to be your responsibility. I just want them to be inside and observe and learn,’ the Chief said.
‘Ma’am—’ Yeonjun began but I shook my head.
‘Misun or in your case, noona,’ I said with a small smile that made all three of them smile.
‘Noona, we can take care of ourselves, I promise. All three of us are well equipped with martial arts skills and we know how to defend ourselves if need be,’ Yeonjun said.
‘Fine, but you listen to what I say. If I tell you to go out, you go out, understood?’ I asked as all three of them nodded. ‘Okay then. Let’s get these sons of *es and put them away,’ I said.
